How to Determine Motor Oil Viscosity Ratings

You may have heard the term motor oil viscosity when you are having your vehicle's motor oil changed, but what does this mean? At Maserati of Santa Barbara, it is important to us that you have an understating of how your vehicle functions. To give you an understanding of motor oil viscosity, we have explained it below.

Viscosity refers to how much the motor oil can resist flow. The numbers and letters help you determine motor oil viscosity. The number that comes before the letter indicates how fast the oil moves at cold temperatures, and the number that comes after the letter indicates how fast it will move at higher temperatures. For example, motor oil that is 10W-30 means that 10 is how fast it will move at colder temperatures and 30 is how fast it will move at hotter temperatures.

When you need your oil changed, be sure to contact our service center at Maserati of Santa Barbara. Our friendly service technicians can ensure that your vehicle gets the right motor oil for optimal performance.
